This piece was commissioned by Lisa Cella as part of her pioneering Low Flutes Project. I wanted her to have a piece that was both through-composed and left room for imaginative interplay. This work evokes the cycles, memories and mysteries of our literal and metaphoric hearts. The players become molecules moving through the heart, carried relentlessly through four chambers, submitting to the "weather" of each chamber, and then returning to the body, where they will eventually have to cycle back.
