How To Setup Transcoding With DRM In Less Than 1 Min

What is DRM

Digital rights management (DRM) is the use of technology to control and manage access to copyrighted material.Its a premium technology used by the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime Video etc to prevent content theft by leveraging screencapture prevention, file encryption etc

Gumlet provides you access to well known names in the market for DRM protection: Google Widewine and Apple Fairplay. To play DRM protected content you will need credentials from both . We are happy to manage the same for Widewine & for Apple Fairplay , please refer to (c) in Things to Remember. (You can check DRM credentials here after login)

Steps after logging in to Gumlet Dashboard

  1. Create a collection here
  2. Create a profile here and enable DRM
  3. Connect the DRM enabled profile to the DRM videos collection & you are ready to upload videos that will be DRM protected!

Things To Remember

  1. [Not applicable to Tier5 Appsumo users] If your plan has DRM included only then you will be able to enable and test out DRM on 5 videos per collection by default . If you would like to get production level credentials to process more than that, please do so as per below. Once you get production credentials applied to your account our team or yours will need to re-process all previous DRM protected videos with the testing credentials.
  2. If you have applied for Widewine production level credentials here : https://forms.gle/eja8RbxAEfqTVyyFA to add more than 5 DRM protected videos per collection , then please wait for a go-ahead from our team before uploading DRM protected videos.
  3. If you have not added Fairplay credentials (We cannot provide them for testing or in any case) your videos will not play on Apple devices . The process to procure Fairplay credentials is here : https://docs.gumlet.com/docs/fairplay-drm#request-fairplay-deployment-package . You can add Fairplay credentials later and there will be no need to reprocess the DRM protected videos and after that videos will start playing on Apple devices. You dont need the Fairplay credentials for testing out DRM.
  4. Once you upload videos and they are encrypted with DRM, you will need to reprocess them if you would like a non DRM version of that same video or you can enable mp4 access in your processing settings to have an mp4 version of that same video handy.
  5. To add these DRM protected videos on App/Website
  • Wherever iframe is supported you can use Gumlets embed code consisting of our video player which has built in support for DRM . We would however ask you to test these out first to check that there are no platform constraints.
  • If you would like to use your own player, please refer to the documentation (2. & 3.) above on how to implement DRM integration.
